Something Like Happiness

About this book

As Independent Scottish booksellers, we write all of our descriptions personally, we hope you enjoy this one.

Frazer and Caitlin have come a long way without ever leaving their dead end town. Once teenage sweethearts, they now share a barely habitable flat, a life under financial strain, and the worry of an autistic son who is struggling at school.

Caitlin dreams of fresh carpets and clean walls, of a home that feels less like something to endure. For Frazer, Apex Court is not only a place to live, but the place where his parents lived and died, and where their memory still holds him.

He has asked Caitlin to marry him twice. She tries to leave most weeks. Between them there is love, but also exhaustion, history, and the quiet pressure of wanting different futures from the same narrow life.

Something Like Happiness follows a family held together by feeling and worn down by circumstance, asking what love can bear when escape is never simple.
