In Locharran, Ally McKinley has found a new rhythm, splitting her days between running the cosiest little guesthouse in the Highlands and walking by the loch with her puppy, Flora. The village is small enough for every face to be familiar, every scrap of news to travel fast.
That calm breaks when Ally and Flora find the body of a mysterious woman floating in the water. Before Ally can step back, she is pulled into another investigation, trying to work out who the woman was and why she was killed. Her questions take her through the village, from the corner shop and the nearby hotel to the turreted castle where the local earl, Hamish Sinclair, is preparing for his much gossiped about wedding.
Then the earl’s new bride, Elena, is found poisoned to death the morning after her marriage. With two deaths and a rumour mill running hot, suspicion spreads across Locharran, and even reaches Ally herself. Determined to clear her name, she follows the trail to poison found at the home of a suspect, and realises the danger is close. With a killer still at large, she must unravel the clues before the loch claims someone else.
