Epic Fantasy Sibling Saga Power & Legacy Magical Realism Duology Finale

Overview

In In an Orchard Grown from Ash, Rory Power brings the Argyros family saga to a close. The siblings are scattered after betrayal and loss, their once vast powers broken along with their trust in each other. As war looms, they are forced to decide whether they can rebuild their bond and their world, or let their legacy collapse for good.

Writing & Voice

We found the writing direct and emotionally grounded, even as the story moves through large mythic ideas. Power balances action with quiet reflection, letting the consequences of earlier choices settle. The tone feels heavier than the first book, which suits a story about fallout and reckoning.

Characters

Rhea stands at the heart of the novel, changed by death magic and the weight of responsibility. Lexos is forced to face what his power means without control. Chrysanthi’s journey adds tension and urgency. We felt the siblings’ separation deeply, and their strained attempts to reconnect carry much of the emotional force.

Themes

This book focuses on legacy, identity and what remains after power is stripped away. Family ties are tested by grief and ambition. The story asks whether inheritance is something we must accept, or something we can reshape after damage has been done.

What Worked

  • Strong emotional payoff: the sibling arcs feel earned and resolved.
  • Clear continuation: the story builds directly on the first book without repetition.
  • Confident ending: the duology closes with purpose rather than spectacle.

Minor Quibbles

  • The cast and plot threads are dense and require close attention.
  • Readers new to the series may find it hard to enter at this point.

Final Thoughts

We found In an Orchard Grown from Ash a satisfying and thoughtful conclusion to Rory Power’s duology. It leans into consequence rather than spectacle, and gives its characters room to reckon with what they have broken and what they still hope to save.

Rating: ★★★★☆ (4.4 / 5)

Best for readers who enjoy epic fantasy driven by family conflict, legacy and emotional resolution rather than simple triumph.
