The Trials of Marjorie Crowe: a Scottish-set gripping crime thriller about witchcraft

About this book

As Independent Scottish booksellers, we write all of our descriptions personally, we hope you enjoy this one.

Marjorie Crowe has always existed on the edges of village life. In Kilgoyne, Scotland, no one quite agrees on who she is or where she came from. The stories shift. Her age is uncertain. Her past is guessed at. For the most part, the village prefers to leave her alone.

That fragile peace shatters when local teenager Charlie McKee is found dead in the woods. Marjorie is the one who discovers the body. What she claims to have seen makes no sense to the police, and doubt settles quickly. When another young person disappears, suspicion hardens into certainty.

Is Marjorie a threat, or simply an easy target for fear and gossip. As the village closes ranks against her, she is forced to confront the stories told about her and decide how far she is willing to go to clear her name.

This is a tense, unsettling psychological thriller that explores isolation, prejudice and the danger of being misunderstood.
