Greater Sins – A dark discovery upturns a Scottish village

About this book

As Independent Scottish booksellers, we write all of our descriptions personally, we hope you enjoy this one.

Set in 1915 in the remote Cabrach of Aberdeenshire, Greater Sins begins with a discovery that unsettles an already fragile community. In a peat bog, a body is found, preserved by the land itself. It is pulled from the earth by two unlikely witnesses: Lizzie, the wife of a prosperous landowner, and Johnny, a travelling singer and hired hand.

The find stirs fear and fascination in equal measure. Around firesides and in the local inn, rumours spread as people question what has been revealed and what it might mean. With the Great War rumbling in the distance, the community faces its own reckoning, shaped by class, desire and long-held secrets.

As one truth leads to another, moral certainties begin to erode. Greater Sins is a novel rooted in landscape and history, exploring guilt, complicity and the quiet violence that can exist within small, watchful places.
