A tense, unsettling speculative novel about a girl raised in a jungle holiday-house by an AI “Mother,” whose isolation begins to crack as outside forces and secrets press in. Perfect for readers who enjoy atmospheric dystopia, psychological unease and questions about identity, control and humanity.

We found Jungle House to be thoughtful, unsettling and quietly powerful, a story that asks difficult questions about who looks after us and at what cost.
As Independent Scottish booksellers, we write all of our descriptions personally, we hope you enjoy this one.
In Jungle House, Lena’s world is bounded by heat, colour, and a high security fence. She has grown up deep in the jungle with Mother, caretakers of an empty holiday home where beauty and danger exist side by side. The outside world feels distant, reduced to memories of Isabella, the girl who once visited with her wealthy parents and a watchful drone. They stopped coming years ago, without explanation.
Mother insists they are safe. She refuses to be drawn with a face, describing herself instead as a small light holding back encroaching darkness. Beyond the fence, a civil war gathers force, but Mother is determined that nothing will intrude on their private kingdom or threaten her bond with Lena.
As Lena begins to question the stories she has been told, the jungle itself seems to listen. The novel unfolds slowly and uneasily, revealing how isolation can distort love, and how secrets, once rooted, grow with a life of their own.
