About this book

As Independent Scottish booksellers, we write all of our descriptions personally, we hope you enjoy this one.

In The King’s Messenger, duty and suspicion collide in a Scotland unsettled by royal death. It is 1613, and the sudden loss of Prince Henry has left the kingdoms uneasy. Whispers of poisoning reach King James, and Andrew Logan, one of the King’s Messengers, is sent north with quiet orders to seize the man believed responsible.

Phoebe Westaway wants nothing to do with Logan. She mistrusts his authority and resents his presence, yet when her ageing father is drawn into the mission, she has little choice but to follow. Together they are tasked with capturing Sir David Moray, once close to the prince and now accused of his murder.

The journey south is anything but straightforward. Sir David refuses to submit, and each mile entangles them further in courtly rivalries, shifting loyalties, and dangerous half truths. As the pursuit grows more perilous, Phoebe begins to question where justice truly lies, and whether the man she distrusts may be her strongest ally. Rich in historical tension, The King’s Messenger explores power, conscience, and the cost of serving the crown.
