A gritty, intense thriller in which a brutal murder — a body found savagely dismembered in a lake near a political conference centre — plunges a tough detective into a maze of corruption, power and conspiracy. Perfect for readers who enjoy dark, character-driven Nordic-style crime with political intrigue.

The Silenced is a dark and thoughtful Nordic crime novel that blends investigation with political tension. It rewards careful reading and leaves a lasting sense of unease about who really holds power and who pays the price.
As Independent Scottish booksellers, we write all of our descriptions personally, we hope you enjoy this one.
The Silenced opens in a political landscape where power is exercised quietly and without mercy. When a mutilated body is pulled from the water outside a governing party conference centre, detective Julia Gabrielsson is left with almost nothing to work from. The victim has been stripped of identity, as if someone wanted them erased as thoroughly as possible.
At the same time, police officer David Sarac is confined to a remote psychiatric ward, battered by violence and by the voices he can no longer silence. His plan to end his life is interrupted by an unexpected proposition, one that offers purpose at a moment when he has nothing left to lose.
As their paths begin to converge, the novel reveals a world where truth is inconvenient and expendable. The Silenced is controlled and unsettling, attentive to damaged minds and compromised institutions, and to the ways individuals are used, discarded, and silenced when they threaten something larger than themselves.
