Our Lady of Mysterious Ailments: Edinburgh Nights 2

About this book

As Independent Scottish booksellers, we write all of our descriptions personally, we hope you enjoy this one.

Ropa Moyo had hoped that discovering Edinburgh’s hidden magical library would change her fortunes. Instead it leaves her unpaid, underused, and still struggling to cover rent and care for her fox. The city’s secret societies guard their power closely, and they are not inclined to welcome newcomers, no matter how talented.

When a friend offers Ropa quiet work at Our Lady of Mysterious Ailments, she steps into a stranger kind of ward. The hospital treats illnesses that refuse both spell and science, and one case in particular has unsettled everyone. A young boy lies trapped in a sickness no one can name, his body caught between worlds. Ropa’s search for answers draws her through Edinburgh’s back streets and buried histories, where old grudges and forgotten wealth still exert a pull.

Our Lady of Mysterious Ailments blends contemporary Edinburgh with folklore, medicine, and restless ghosts. It is a story about learning who holds knowledge, who is excluded from it, and what the past demands when it refuses to stay silent.
