The Ghost Woods – A chillingly haunting psychological thriller

About this book

As Independent Scottish booksellers, we write all of our descriptions personally, we hope you enjoy this one.

Lichen Hall stands at the edge of the woods, a house shaped as much by story as by stone. Locals speak of ghosts and witches, of a child who does not quite belong to the world. Now the trees are pressing closer, and whatever has long been contained here is beginning to stir.

Pearl Gorham arrives in 1965, sent to Lichen Hall as one of several young women hidden away to give birth. The rules are strict, the atmosphere watchful, and Pearl soon senses that care is not the house’s only purpose. When she encounters a solitary woman and her young son living within the grounds, the uneasy fragments begin to connect. What they share is curiosity, and a growing fear of what Lichen Hall protects.

The Ghost Woods is steeped in folklore and quiet dread, where landscape and memory entwine. As secrets surface and the woods close in, Pearl must decide how much she is willing to risk for truth. It is a haunting novel about motherhood, autonomy, and the stories places tell when no one is listening.
