It is November 2020 and the world is growing colder. As ice water drains into the Atlantic and people move south in search of warmth, Dylan travels north, returning to Scotland, the country his mother and grandmother once called home.
In the Highlands, twelve year old Stella and her mother Constance live on the margins, bracing themselves for a winter forecast to be the harshest yet. They survive from a caravan, sifting through landfills for anything that might be traded or kept. Their days are shaped by routine, preparation and the steady narrowing of options.
Dylan arrives without warning, in the middle of the night. His presence unsettles what little balance they have, but also alters it in quieter ways. As the weather closes in and the wider world begins to fracture, the three of them find a fragile sense of purpose.
