We found Knight’s writing warm, thoughtful and easy to settle into. The prose captures the excitement and uncertainty of being young without becoming sentimental. There is a confidence to the storytelling that allows the emotional moments to develop naturally.

The novel stays close to Pen as she pieces together fragments of her mother’s past. Alongside the mystery surrounding her parentage, she experiences the ordinary upheavals of university life, building friendships and learning who she wants to become.
