Maureen O’Donnell is a psychiatric patient when she finds her boyfriend dead in her living room. The shock is immediate, but what follows is worse. Glasgow police treat her as both suspect and unstable witness, and even her mother is convinced she is involved.

Betrayed by friends and family, Maureen begins to doubt her own version of events. Memory turns slippery, fear takes over, and the simplest facts become hard to hold. Panic stricken, she starts to pursue the truth for herself, following a trail of deception and suppressed scandal that seems to have been waiting beneath ordinary life.

Then a second body is discovered. The case tightens, and so does the danger around Maureen. If she cannot reach the killer first, she may not get another chance to tell her story at all.
