Muscle: Drunk on cinematic and literary influence

About this book

As Independent Scottish booksellers, we write all of our descriptions personally, we hope you enjoy this one.

In a city shaped by deals, debt and quiet brutality, Box and his partner make a living enforcing consequences. They are men of few words and firm methods, hired to collect apologies, money or blood. Violence is routine. Questions are unnecessary.

Everything shifts during a late night poker game. A pulp writer with grand ideas and a private detective with flexible morals pull them into something far stranger than a simple job. What follows resists easy definition. It might be a mystery. It might be a trail of bodies. It might be a delirious descent with no clear ending.

As boredom curdles into chaos, the city reveals itself as a place where stories distort truth and violence becomes absurdly circular.

Muscle is a sharp, unsettling noir that plays with form and expectation. Darkly funny and relentlessly inventive, it explores masculinity, meaninglessness and madness through a lens of crime fiction pushed to breaking point.
