Food Whisky Life

About this book

As Independent Scottish booksellers, we write all of our descriptions personally, we hope you enjoy this one.

Food Whisky Life goes beyond recipes to explore how cooking, drinking and living well are closely connected. This is a book shaped by experience, curiosity and an openness to flavour, place and people. Food and whisky are treated not as luxuries, but as ways of understanding culture, memory and resilience.

Drawing on a lifetime of travel and kitchen practice, Ghillie Basan brings together dishes and whisky pairings that reflect both Scotland and the wider world. The emphasis is on balance and pleasure, encouraging readers to trust their senses and enjoy the process as much as the result.

Stories sit naturally alongside the food, giving context to ingredients and techniques while reflecting on hospitality, generosity and survival. Food Whisky Life is reflective without being sentimental, practical without losing warmth. It invites readers to slow down, cook with intention and savour the connections between what we eat, what we drink and how we choose to live.
