A gritty crime thriller following a hardened hitman navigating Glasgow’s underworld as he collapses into a spiral of drugs, violence and regret. Perfect for readers who like unflinching, dark urban thrillers steeped in moral ambiguity.

We found Squeaky Clean to be gritty, funny, and full of heart, a crime novel that cares deeply about the people caught inside its mess.
As Independent Scottish booksellers, we write all of our descriptions personally, we hope you enjoy this one.
Davey Burnet keeps his head down at the carwash, watches other people’s lives slide past, and expects nothing much to change. Then he takes the wrong car for a spin and ends up dragged into a Glasgow underworld where mistakes are paid for in bone and blood. Survival becomes a matter of keeping quiet and staying useful.
In Squeaky Clean, the city is sharp edged and unsentimental. Davey finds himself working for men who enjoy cruelty as entertainment, while trying to stay one step ahead of a violence he never trained for. Circling the chaos is DI Alison McCoistis, written off by her own station as either corrupt or incompetent, and stubborn enough to keep digging anyway.
The novel balances grim humour with genuine threat, attentive to class, desperation, and bad luck. Squeaky Clean is about ordinary lives colliding with systems that do not forgive error, and the slim chance of getting out intact when the rules change without warning.
